About solas

Solas Art Gallery is an artist led, not for profit, gallery space in Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim. The Gallery initiative first began between Leitrim County Council (LCC) Arts Office and the Ballinamore Community Arts Group (BCAG) in 2007 (Above the Four Seasons Garden Centre). Following the retirement of Ben & Gail Quinn in 2023, the gallery relocated to the Island Theatre of Ballinamore, a state of the art performance venue. The Gallery continues to be funded by LCC Arts Office and is entirely run on a voluntary basis. The main aim of Solas Art Gallery is to promote all genres of visual art to the local and wider community. By making an exhibition space accessible to all emerging and established artists, both full time and part time, it also brings an awareness of art to the public. With much greater wall space within the airy, light filled adjoining rooms and corridors of the theatre building, Solas Art Gallery hosts three group exhibitions a year, inclusive of a junior exhibition, solo and joint solo exhibitions. Our extensive calendar of events currently equates to eight official opening nights free for all. In September, we also host our annual Culture Night extravaganza with a variety of invigorating performance arts. Our community-led gallery is run on a membership basis. It gives member artists the opportunity to exhibit in three group shows and also to apply for a solo or joint solo show biannually. Membership is open to all artists aged 16yrs and over throughout the year. The artists exhibiting are fully supported and guided by the collective knowledge and experience of the voluntary committee members of the BCAG. Guidance also includes the display and promotion of their art and enhancement of their professional development. Solas Art Gallery encourages its many members to participate in the many activities of the gallery and to collectively nurture the essence of both community based enterprises, enchantingly blending the diversity of visual and performance arts.
