" Encircled"  : Exhibition by Anita Dougan

My work has always been instinctual and spontaneous, an expression of an emotion or thought at any random moment.

The expression of thoughts or emotions through spoken word has for me often been haphazard at best, words can often be so inadequate as we all know.

What I enjoy about working intuitively is the fact that the end result is something the viewer can add their own interpretation to.

There is always the possibility that a piece relates to something which the viewer also finds inexpressible.

The circle appears a lot in my work often unintentionally, but i feel it has a deep meaning in terms of emotions.

Very few things in life are linear, we often revisit emotions or events in our lives on our path to healing.

Nature is cyclical as we know and the circle and spiral are the basis for all natural things.

The Buddhist theory that we reincarnate in this life until we gain wisdom..is an interesting one in terms of a non-linear understanding of life.

Not all of my works feature circular images ...but as it appeared quite frequently I thought the title "Encircled" was apt...for me it speaks of safety and magic ..hopefully it translates to something positive for the viewers of this selection of work..

Enjoy.
