‘ON EDGE’
SOLAS ART GALLERY
NEAL GREIG AND EILEEN FERGUSON
26 August – 17 September
Eileen and Neal are based in the border area of Glaslough County Monaghan , they met at the Tyrone Guthrie Art Centre in 1991. This is
their first exhibition together since 2010. They have their studios in Monaghan and on Coney Island Sligo where Eileen has her ancestral
home.
While Eileen and Neal’s paintings are thematically quite disparate, there are some underlying connections. A sense of colour, texture and
an awareness of painterly tradition. The language of mark making is explored and a sense of time and space conveyed.
EILEEN FERGUSON
The theme of social, political, cultural landscape is a basis for Eileen’s creative practice. Her narrative works incorporate landscape but are
primarily concerned with a sense of place, memory and history. Covid allowed Eileen to focus on this idea of isolation, occupation,
land, borders and walls. The imagery was collected during Eileen’s stay in the Occuppied territories Palestine in 2019. Eileen was a volounteer
on the Olive Tree Campaign
NEAL GREIG
Outstanding, closely observed landscapes that maintain a spontaneous, energised engagement with the atmospherics of each location, be it the
turbulent waters along the Northwest coastline or the rivers and lakes of Fermanagh and Monaghan. Greig is always there in the moment, and
conveys the experience directly.
