MIRIAM DORAN ARTIST STATEMENT

I Was born in New Zealand and have been residing in Donegal for the past 23 years.. Prior to that I lived in London where I studied aspects of art, including Practice & Theory in Modern Art at Chelsea, this was a stepping stone to further avenues, it lead to running a small gallery located off the KINGS ROAD, showing works of local painters and of my father Mark Venables a noted painter & print maker, it was great fun and moderately successful.

I consider myself a painter’s painter, my mediums are varied, Encaustic I want to take further.

Now I look for the Spiritual Essence, trying to dig deeper, see what happens, Whether it’s the energy of surrounding sea, or woods of Jampa Ling

For the past several years I have been going to nearby Jampa Ling Meditation Centre, during my times there, weather permitting I find myself drawn to their small forest, which is quite mystic. So out comes the sketch book, and love to paint directly on to canvas, trying to capture little nuances, its very spiritual.
